savvy launchPeter de Savary launches Savvy

PdeS the high profile entrepreneur who has been instrumental in the Port Louis project in Grenada has added another string to his bow and has bought a wooden schooner built in the tiny island of Petit Martinique, part of the tri island state of Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique.

Along with Keith Mitchell the Prime Minister of Grenada, the whole of the islands population arrived with visitors from neighbouring Carriacou and Mayreau (and a smattering of yachtsmen) to witness the launch of Savvy - a traditional 40ft sloop built right there on the sandy beach of Petit Martinique.

The day is summed up by a vistors comments "I spent 5 hours traveling on a ferry to stand for five hours in the sun on a beach to watch a boat move 10 yards into the sea - and I wouldn't have missed it for the world!"

Savvy has been entered in the Port Louis Grenada Sailing Festival that starts January 25th.

See below extract of Press release re the announcement of the new ownership of the Port Louis Marina - we are delighted to announce that Camper & Nicholsons have come in as joint sponsors of the Grenada Sailing Festival which can only bode well for racing and yachting!

Camper & Nicholsons invest at Port Louis, Grenada W.I.

Peter de Savary, Founder of the Port Louis Grenada project, announced today that Port Louis had concluded an agreement whereby Camper & Nicholsons Marina Investments Ltd will acquire and complete the further development phases of the actual marina and manage the operation of the marina itself.

Camper & Nicholsons Marinas are world leaders and experts in the field of marinas with a history of over 200 years who are committed to completing the expansion of the marina as quickly as possible and operating the marina to the highest possible international standards.

The overall Port Louis project will include a world class state of the art marina, waterfront village of duty free shops, bars, cafes, spa, hotels, luxury villas, apartments and penthouses. Bordered by the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea and Pandy Beach, Port Louis also has striking views of the picturesque waterfront capital of St. Georges, the mountains and rainforests beyond.

Peter de Savary commented as follows "Port Louis is a complex, comprehensive and diversified project. It is therefore very exciting and credible to have Camper & Nicholsons takeover the marina itself at Port Louis. We shall continue to invite other first class specialist international companies to participate in other specific areas of the overall development of Port Louis. Whilst we shall remain the overall master developer, the project will benefit greatly from a consortium of international expertise and multiple resources. At Port Louis we have created an opportunity which has brought, and will continue to bring, increasing benefits to Grenada".

rocROC Rocks: Caribbean Race Organiser Meet and Set Course

It may appear to be all fun in the sun but the orchestration of a successful regatta in the Caribbean requires countless man-hours, many volunteers and successful partnerships with organisations that are as different as the host's countries Immigration and Customs departments to the street vendors. It was many of these relationships that were discussed in Antigua by the twenty seven participants of the fourth Caribbean Sailing Association (CSA) Regatta organisers Conference (ROC) over the weekend of 20/21 October.

Thanks to American Airlines who made this trip possible for the Festival Administrator Mary Ann (in pink second row!)

launch partyIt's Official.....

At 6pm on Tuesday 11 September, the Port Louis Grenada Sailing Festival was launched and the boat well and truly pushed out as 250 invited guests, Government officials, sponsors, supporters and volunteers past, present and future (hopefully) came to the Victory Bar and Grill at the new Port Louis marina to celebrate.

Jimmy Bristol, Chairman of the GSF Board, formally welcomed Port Louis as the new title sponsors of the Grenada Sailing Festival and Digicel as the WorkBoat Regatta title sponsors, this was an opportunity to thank all of the other sponsor who have already signed up. See sponsors link on the website.

Senator The Honorable Mrs Brenda Hood, on behalf of the Government and Mrs Jocelyn Sylvester-Gairy on behalf of the Grenada Board of Tourism, made congratulatory speeches; it was also an opportunity for Mr Peter de Savary to introduce himself and Port Louis in a short, but impassioned speech.

Our generous sponsors provided drinks: Coca Cola, Glenelg, Heineken, Mount Gay and North South Trading, the distributors of Hardys and Moet & Chandon.

True Blue Bay Resort continues to be the host venue for the event, and also provides the Secretariat office by the reception area. Racing will be a mixture of the shifty winds of Grand Anse Bay and the steady breezes of the south coast, daily prize giving and of course parties....

Digicel Signing ContractDigicelare the new title sponsors of the Port Louis Grenada Sailing Festival WorkBoat Regatta!

We are delighted to announce that Digicel are the title sponsors of the WorkBoat Regatta that is held in conjunction with the Port Louis Grenada Sailing Festival over the weekend of 26/27 January 2008.

Every year the sailors from our tri island state of Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique come head to head over two days of racing in locally built wooden boats (originally built for fishing) that ultimately finishes in the Skipper of the Year Race in the matched GSF 16's.

The WorkBoat Regatta is staged on the stunning white beach of Grand Anse and all weekend, music, competitions, drink and food; keep both local and visitors entertained.

Digicel arrived in Grenada in 17 October 2003 and very quickly established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in mobile telecommunications, involving the company in many aspects of Grenadian life, Carnival and Cricket - to name just two - so Port Louis Grenada Sailing Festival are delighted to have them join the team.
